Railroad tunnel beneath Fairview Cemetery

Interesting blog entry, though probably nothing new to the old-timers.

Yeah, back in the late 70's the kids used to ride their mini bikes through it. We found out a decade later when it was too late to punish them.

The pipeline in the pictures is still in use transporting fuel oil from the Hess Plant to the PSE&G plant in Ridgefield.

And when they decide to take the property from the Sewer Plant that we gave away for a buck, and just set up a station, they'll pump the sewerage through the tunnel which gets around the need to pump it up and over a hill, like they told us was 'just not feasible'.

Doesn't Fred own the land where the Edgewater opening is?

More tunnel stuff. And, to answer Jim's question, I think he does.

Read the entry in the blog. Could someone orient us by name of shopping center and streets, in addition to the longitude and latitude given? We are assuming it's City Place, thus South of Gorge Road? Maybe more or less directly across from the alleged new Borough Hall and police station?

Re: Railroad tunnel beneath Fairview Cemetery

The tunnel is directly across from the "Commons"in line with the Starbucks- Just behind the "dirt pile" that was there ,west of River Road. If you take Old River Road, the tunnel enters the Palisades below the bend in the road, next to that odd building made out of pavers.
Speaking of the dirt pile, when they finally moved it did they dump it behind Le Jarden? Since they have to remove all that extra fill that they dumped ,should we expect it to come back to the River Road site?Just wondering

Naaa. He found a better spot out in the County Park in Ridgefield Park and Leonia where they're filling in for the commutor parking lot for the train station. Imagine, he's being paid by us taxpayers here in Bergen County for the toxic fill being dumped!
