Angry Buying Hess property

someone explain why brushing off a $12 million a year ratable is a good idea and how is it that building a DPW garage on the Hudson River is not an utterly irresponsible act on the part of the mayor and council?

Re: Buying Hess property

You miss the point. The whole purpose of condemning the property is to prevent competition to two local developers. The council doesn't care if the property is used to stage construction debris and impounded vehicles, so long as there's no apartments and retail.

Angry Re: Buying Hess property

So what are you saying -- that the mayor and council are going to sell the rest of the town down the river (no pun intended) to help some crony developers avoid competition?

Re: Buying Hess property

Do you have a more plausible explanation?

I assume the developer will also get the contract to redevelop the site. It's a "win-win," as some of them used to say.

Re: Buying Hess property

Do you think the town can sustain a 20 story highrise? The building would be like putting in 4 alexanders from what Ive heard.
There are petitions to ask for a school to be built on the property if its condemned. Id like to push to ban daibes from bidding on the project on the grounds of ongoimg litigation around veterans field

Re: Buying Hess property

I don't know why the town can't sustain such a building, but I'd like to know more about the development -- and about the development that the town just approved for Daibes on the Honeywell site. I thought I saw someplace that the developer at one time offered to build a school there...
Undoubtedly if this project fails, you know Daibes will end up with the property, despite whatever petition gets signed.
