Independence Harbor to launch wood floor amendment

Finally, the board has decided to launch the votes solicitation to amend the master deed to permit wood flooring. This time, they are being helped by realtors to improve the marketing efforts and will post posters in the mail rooms to recruit volunteers to follow up with people. Sounds like a good plan.

Re: Independence Harbor to launch wood floor amendment

A friend of mine bought down there a year ago and found out he could not install wood floors. I couldn't really understand why not because all the floors in every building were poured concrete so there should not be any noise increase.

Re: Independence Harbor to launch wood floor amendment

currently, only wall to wall carpeting is permitted. there are some people who have wood floor illegally, but the condo enforces the carpetting requirements upon complaints.

Been there, done that.

This is not the first time there has been an effort to make this change.

Here's the problem...such a change to the bylaws requires 2/3 of the owners to vote in favor. Since I don't think we ever get anywhere close to 50% of owners to vote on anything (let alone vote the same way), it has always been mathematically impossible to make a change to the bylaws.

I'd love to see it work, but if I've learned anything from living here for the past 8 years, it's that this will not pass.

I live in a different complex with poured concrete. I also live below an apartment with wood floors. Unless you are barefoot, walk quietly, never drop or move anything on the floor, etc., there is great amount of sound increase. Add child(ren) to the mix - it intensifies.

If we support, we should all volunteer ourselves to reach out to people who wouldn't otherwise care to submit their votes. We can knock on people's doors to encourage them to send in their votes.

A nice thought, but...

...if I had that kind of spare time, I'd have probably just run for the board at some point.

...if you do this, I suggest bringing along a translator. Many of the people who do not vote fail to do so due to the language barrier.

Good luck.

Re: Independence Harbor to launch wood floor amendment

Does anyone know when this is happening and how I could volunteer my support to help this pass?

Re: Independence Harbor to launch wood floor amendment

It's likely to start in September. I think the posting will solicit volunteers. Just pay attention to the posters in the mailbox room.
